Things I get excited about: web accessibility, clever Javascript, canvas animations, seamless user experience
Things I'm really good at: building clean and responsive sites, user experience design, Sass, semantic HTML, CSS animations, Git, simple to intermediate Javascript, Wordpress
Things I regularly study: Javascript, jQuery, PHP, the open source world
During the height of Harry Potter mania, I once spent an entire childhood summer indoors building a Harry Potter fan website.
My first website's impact was limited — reaching more than my parents but less than my entire middle school — but contributing to the internet was empowering and exciting as an 11 year old.
Flash forward 12 years, to just after college: I began exploring the internet world again, and I found it full of passionate and creative humans. Even more, the internet and design industry moves at lightning speed. Technology changes rapidly, new challenges and trends abound, and improvements take hold quickly.
Intrigued by the possibilities of the web and inspired by the people and projects I encountered, I picked up an internship at Conflare in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood to learn the ropes, moved on to Efelle Creative for 3.5 years, and spent the last 2.5 years with the ethically- and socially-minded design studio Civilization.
January 2017 — Present
Civilization is a socially, ethically, and environmentally-minded design studio where I build custom, from-scratch Wordpress websites. I bring web accessibility and user experience inclusivity skills to the team, and I'm also responsible for deliverables like meeting project deadlines and training clients to use their new CMS & websites.
December 2012 — Ongoing
WordPress. Side projects. All-around fun. Projects include: WMN OWN, an interactive guide to Seattle-area businesses owned by womxn, and Alison's Last Donut, a statement of my devotion to circular frosted treats.
July 2013 — November 2016
We built custom responsive Bootstrap-Sass sites (designed in-house) on a proprietary, PHP-based CMS.
As a project lead, I was responsible for managing the complete build cycle, assigning tasks to junior developers, code review and mentoring junior dev work, and ensuring deadlines and project estimates were met.
Skills and frameworks: Bootstrap + Sass. PHP-based system and CMS. Database management. Git. Photoshop.
December 2012 — June 2013
Started as a front end development intern and became a go-to for project management, copywriting, and basic front end dev tasks.
Skills and frameworks: Photoshop, Git and Subversion, Bootstrap and Foundation.
